STUDIOS AND MAKING METHODS
Dennis set up studios in Lancashire and West Yorkshire before moving to Shropshire in 1991to take up a lecturing post at the University of Wolverhampton.
His early work was very much influenced by the industrial urban landscapes of East Lancashire and West Yokshire; producing one-off pieces fired to 1260 centigrade alongside raku fired pieces. His current work is more landscape influenced and fired to 1120 C, using a blended black and terracotta body overpainted with engobes and lightly brushed with transparent glaze.
More recently Dennis has been producing paintings in oil and acrylic alongside his ceramics.
Recent works have been influenced by the coastal landscapes around the UK.
Information is gathered working plein air before being developed further in the studio in two and three dimensions. Working in this way allows an interaction of ideas between the different media.
